Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has been placed on the NFL’s Commissioner’s Exempt List, a move that keeps him off the field while a league investigation continues. Jacobs was arrested in May following a disturbance complaint and faces multiple charges stemming from the incident.
Arrest and Charges
The incident began when officers from the Hobart‑Lawrence Police Department were dispatched after a neighbor reported a disturbance involving the player. Responding deputies documented the scene, secured statements, and initiated a formal inquiry that was described by Chief Michael Renkas as “active and ongoing.” This early phase of the case set the groundwork for the subsequent legal actions.
Following the department’s investigation, Jacobs was taken into custody a few days later and entered into the Brown County Jail. The booking listed a series of allegations that spanned several categories of domestic‑related conduct, ranging from physical altercations to property interference. Over the ensuing weeks, prosecutors narrowed the focus to two specific statutory violations, each defined by Wisconsin law as the most serious misdemeanor classification. The battery provision targets intentional bodily harm inflicted without consent, while the property provision addresses deliberate damage to another’s belongings without permission.
Although the initial complaint also referenced conduct such as strangulation, suffocation, and intimidation, those particular allegations did not appear in the formal filing that was later submitted. The decision to exclude them reflects the prosecutorial discretion exercised after reviewing the evidence collected during the early investigation.

League Procedure
Placement on the Commissioner’s Exempt List functions as a temporary administrative measure rather than a punitive suspension. Under this status, the player is barred from participating in any team activities, including practice sessions and game-day rosters, until the NFL concludes its internal assessment. Despite the restriction on on‑field involvement, the contractual salary continues to be disbursed, ensuring the athlete receives compensation while the matter remains unresolved.
