The Tata IPL 2024 is just around the corner and guarantees an exhilarating season. The seventeenth edition of the IPL is all set to begin on March 22 with an exciting clash between CSK and RCB. In this article, let us look at the winner’s list and some interesting stats about the tournament since its inception over the last seventeen years.  

IPL 2008 

The first edition of the IPL started amid tremendous anticipation and excitement. Eight teams participated in this inaugural event. Rajasthan Royals, led by Shane Warne, defeated CSK in the final and won the title. Yusuf Pathan won the Player of the Match for his all-around heroics, and Shane Watson grabbed the Player of the Series. While CSK became a supreme force in the tournament in the following years, Rajasthan Royals appeared in the 2022 final.  

IPL 2009 

Due to the general elections, South Africa was chosen to conduct the event. Led by Adam Gilchrist, the Deccan Chargers outperformed the Royal Challengers Bangalore and won the championship. Herschelle Gibbs’s 53-not-out and Pragyan Ojha’s brilliant bowling display handed the team a magnificent win. RCB skipper Anil Kumble was the Player of the Match, and DC captain Adam Gilchrist won the Player of the Series. 

IPL 2010  

The Chennai Super Kings’ domination in the IPL and rivalry with the Mumbai Indians began with this edition. CSK, under MS Dhoni, defeated the Mumbai Indians by 22 runs and won its first title. Suresh Raina and Sachin Tendulkar won the POTM and the POTS, respectively.  

IPL 2011 

CSK beat RCB by 58 runs and became the first team to win back-to-back titles. CSK’s Murali Vijay and Micheal Hussey gave a solid start while batting, and Ashwin grabbed three wickets while defending to win the second title. Murali Vijay won the POTM.  

IPL 2012 

In a thrilling final, KKR defeated CSK by two runs and won its maiden trophy. Manvinder Bisla and Jacques Kallis comfortably chased 190 and clinched the championship. Bisla won the POTM award.  

IPL 2013 

Kieron Pollard’s brilliance with the bat and ball guided Mumbai Indians to a remarkable victory against CSK. Pollard was awarded the POTM.  

IPL 2014 

Chasing a mammoth 199 by Kings XI Punjab, KKR won its second title. Wriddhiman Saha’s century went in vain when Manish Pandey kept calm and played under pressure to grab the trophy. Pandey received the POTM award for his brilliant 90.  

IPL 2015 

Mumbai Indians defeated CSK in the final by 41 runs and won its second championship. Lendl Simmons and Rohit Sharma paved the way for a big score of 202, which CSK failed to achieve.  

IPL 2016 

In a high-scoring game, David Warner’s SRH beat Virat Kohli’s RCB by eight runs. David Warner, Yuvraj Singh, and Ben Cutting played some incredible knocks. Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli provided a solid start, but others failed to carry the momentum. Kohli was in beast mode throughout the tournament and scored 973 runs.  

IPL 2017 

Mitchell Johnson’s brilliant last over helped Mumbai Indianswin the title in a nail-biting contest against Pune. With this win, Mumbai won its third IPL championship.  

IPL 2018 

CSK made a stunning comeback after two years of ban in the IPL and won its third title. CSK defeated SRH by eight wickets. Shane Watson’s unbeaten century aided CSK to register a comfortable win.  

IPL 2019 

Mumbai repeated the same as in 2017. This time, Lasith Malinga did the job. In a thrilling encounter between MI and CSK, Mumbai clinched a stunning win by one run, becoming the champion for the fourth time.  

IPL 2020 

Mumbai Indians continued their dominance and grabbed back-to-back wins. Mumbai clinched its fifth title by defeating Delhi Capitals by five wickets.  

IPL 2021 

Chennai Super Kings won its fourth title in this edition. CSK’s top-order batters and bowlers went berserk against Kolkata Knight Riders and won the game by 27 runs.  

IPL 2022 

Gujarat Titans surprised everyone in its maiden tournament and continued their red-hot form in the final against the Rajasthan Royals. GT won by seven wickets and won its first title.  

IPL 2023 

Ravindra Jadeja maintained his composure and carried his team to a spectacular victory on the last delivery. Playing on a reserve day, CSK won by five wickets using the DLS method and equaled MI in winning the most titles.  

IPL 2024 -? All ten teams have revamped their sides by retaining some and acquiring new players. In a game of absolute uncertainty, each team has a chance to make it.
